The WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational is a unique beast on the schedule, packing a smaller field loaded with talent into a four-round no cut event.  The result is an entertaining event that also leads to different strategies in the Fantasy Golf space.  So as the players hone in on TPC Southwind, there are various key stats to consider when selecting your PGA DFS Sleepers for the week.

The next question is to stack or not to stack.

With so many big names on the slate – from Rory to Bryson to JT and more – it’s easy to want to roster one (or more) of the 10K+ names.  In doing so, you will need to consider the 6K range players.

Obviously, the term “SLEEPER” can be interpreted in a number of different ways.  In this case, it’s simply the lower cost players that stand out in preferred statistical areas, specifically the 6K range.

Because of the smaller field, I’m approaching my list of PGA DFS 2020 WGC-FedEx St. Jude sleepers a little differently this week.  In particular, I have selected eight key statistical categories that I’m tracking for the tournament.  With this slate, there are few 6K range players that pop in these categories.

Whether I heavily roster these players, I haven’t really decided that yet and probably won’t until the backend of the deadline prior to the opening tee times.  I still need to compare to potential ownership numbers, as well as other key factors.

Regarding the stats below, I ran a model on Fantasy National featuring my favorite stats (covering the last 36 rounds for all players in the field).  The results of this data – with some checks from PGATour.com – led me to this foursome:

PGA DFS Sleepers on DraftKings for 2020 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational

Nick Taylor ($6,100)

Combine Taylor with Justin Thomas and you are near the $8,333 player average for a roster of six on DraftKings.  Taylor himself has a win this season and ranks well in key categories.  Over the last 36 rounds, he’s 17th in the field on Par 4’s 450-500 yards and 11th in Proximity from 150-175 yards.  Shift to the last 24 rounds and Taylor is 4th in Proximity from 150-175 yards.  His Par 4 rank drops to 28th – still very respectable.  With smaller greens and few Par 5’s, these are key areas to excel at.

Brendon Todd ($6,600)

Todd is 5th in the field in strokes gained putting on Bermuda greens (over the last 36 rounds).  Throw in the fact that he’s 4th in Proximity from 150-175 yards, a key approach range due to the length of the Par 4’s.  If Todd has a strong week off the tee, this could lead to a large number of birdie opportunities (and drained putts), while others are scrambling and missing the smaller greens.

Ryan Palmer ($6,700)

The recent form is good, considering his runner-up finish at The Memorial and T8 at the RBC Heritage.  Palmer also cracks the field’s Top 25 in both SG: Ball Striking (Off the Tee plus Approach) and Birdies or Better Gained.  He lands in the same range in SG: Putting (Bermuda greens) and Good Drives Gained.

Kevin Streelman ($6,900)

A deeper field sure does drop the price of certain players.  Streelman is a prime example, considering his recent form (T7 at the Workday Charity Open and runner-up at The Travelers).  More importantly, he’s 12th in the field in the Birdie or Better category.  He’s also 3rd in Good Drives Gained and cracks in the top 20 in Par 4’s 450-500 yards.  His SG: Ball Striking rank (30th) isn’t bad either, considering the big names also in this field.
