While it’s safe to say the Wyndham Championship is unlikely to match the intensity of last week’s PGA Championship, this still could be a birdie fest with plenty to offer.  The field is nowhere near as deep, which will make the picks a little tricker to make.  Specifically, I considered a handful of stats when selecting my PGA DFS 2020 Wyndham Sleepers.

Obviously, the term “SLEEPER” can be interpreted in a number of different ways.  In this case, it’s the lower cost players that stand out in key statistical areas, specifically the 6K range on Draftkings.

With Brooks Koepka and Webb Simpson likely to be attractive picks accompanied by hefty price tags, adding at least one 6K player could be a necessity.

This marks two straight weeks picking a sleeper that had at least a share of the lead on the final nine holes of the tournament (Brendon Todd two weeks ago and Paul Casey last week).  Todd was a 6K range pick at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude while Paul Casey carried 100:1 odds to win the PGA.  With the field this week, I’ll be hopeful for a top ten finish.

This is no time for “fore-play” at The Wife Hates Sports, but instead time to make some picks.  Here are my favorite sleepers on DraftKings, featuring stats from a model I ran on Fantasy National (all covering the last 36 rounds for players in the field):

PGA DFS 2020 Wyndham Sleepers: 6K Range Players to Consider on DraftKings

Talor Gooch ($6,900)

Gooch has two top 20 finishes over his last four tournaments, one at the Workday and the other at the 3M Open.  While his recent history at the Wyndham is discouraging (two missed cuts over the last two years), the recent form is solid.  He’s very consistent in a number of key categories over the last 36 rounds.  That includes SG: Approach (20th), Birdies or Better Gained (32nd), Opportunities Gained (15th), Proximity from 150-175 yards (17th) and Par 4 400-450 yards (10th).  He has also putted well recently, sitting 32nd in the field in SG: Putting over the last 36 rounds played.

Pat Perez ($6,900)

Sneaky good veteran that has two top ten finishes this season, Perez has solid numbers in key SG: putting categories.  That includes 28th in SG: Putting, 20th in SG: Putting on Bermuda greens and 21st in SG: Putting on fast greens.  Toss in the fact that Perez is 31st in SG: Approach and 15th on Par 4’s 400-450 yards.  My biggest concern is the fact that he’s 128th in the field in Birdies or Better Gained, a category he’ll need to succeed in, considering each winner has surpassed the 20-under mark in each of the last four years.  Still, a made cut and a solid finish is a good possibility.

Brice Garnett ($6,700)

His form at the Wyndham Championship is on par, with three top 20 finishes over the last four years, including a T6 finish last year.  His last tournament appearance was a T26 finish at the 3M Open, so while a small sample size, the recent form is at least there, too.  He’s 111th in the FedEx Cup standings, meaning he needs a solid performance to remain in the playoff next week.  On top of all that, he’s 2nd in the field in Par 4’s 400-450 yards.  There are seven holes in that range.  He’s also strong on Bermuda greens, sitting 16th in SG: Putting (last 36 rounds).

Sebastian Munoz ($6,600)

Munoz is interesting when it comes to the stat model.  His recent form in SG: Putting is brutal (128th in the field over the last 36 rounds).  However, his performance on Bermuda greens (26th) and fast greens (12th) is miles and miles better.  He’s also 1st in the field in Opportunities gained, an intriguing Fantasy National stat that measures “Birdie opportunities inside 15 ft from green or fringe PLUS Greens/Fringe Under Regulation”.  Many also don’t realize that Munoz is 16th in the FedEx Cup standings over 22 events, clearly showcasing some success over the course of the season.
