Everyone knows that in the game of soccer, using your head is encouraged – but Javier Hernandez took that concept just a bit outside of its context.

Hernandez, a member of the Manchester United powerhouse, scored a key goal in Man U’s 3-1 victory over Chelsea during the 88th Annual FA Community Shield 2010, which took place last weekend at London’s Wembley Stadium.

But the key thing to point out is how Hernandez scored the goal, taking a centering pass – and upon attempting to launch the ball into the back of the net, Hernandez did so successfully, but onlyjavier-hernandez-scores-for-manchester-united after kicking it off his own face first.

The highlight – or lowlight, depending on how you look at it – can only be done proper justice when seeing it occur on video.

So without further ado, here it is (first an amateur version of the clip, followed by the official highlights of the match – which features a clearer picture of the goal midway through).

Now THAT’S using your head, young man…
