Will Ferrell can now add “Professional Basketball Announcer” to his ever-growing resume.

On “80’s Night” at the New Orleans Arena, the actor and comedian was given the task of announcing the starting lineups for the hometown New Orleans Hornets and visiting Chicago Bulls.

Ferrell didn’t dress up like Jackie Moon or lead off with any off-the-wall moves or stunts.  This is actually somewhat surprising considering his general demeanor and character.

In fact, he was fairly tame.  Although, he did manage to toss in a few unique quips that clearly were typical examples of his sense of humor.

Watching the videos, it was clear that Ferrell took the job fairly seriously.  Well, about as serious as a guy like him can take a public appearance.

Whenever the man is on camera, we are in for something and never sure what that something is going to be.

Overall, the performance was good for three out of five stars.  It certainly generated a few chuckles. but that was mostly it.  Nothing was achingly funny, not even to the players that jogged out onto the court.  Then again, he does have the voice down so if his acting career ever falters, perhaps Ferrell has a future in announcing.

Grade his performance for yourself (below), with the Hornets clip included below.
